Mother’s Day Gift: Platinum Jewelry

Platinum is one of the hottest jewelry trends in the US.  The reason why platinum is so popular is because of its rarity and quality as a rare and precious metal.  The cool, crisp silver sheen of platinum goes well with any gemstone, whether it be diamonds, emeralds, rubies, you name it!  But most of all, platinum is popular because it is sturdy, resistant and maintains its value.

Since the 1960s and 1970s, platinum has been on an incline in terms of platinum jewelry buyers and platinum jewelry sellers.  More and more jewelers are carrying platinum to accommodate the increasing number of customers who demand it.  There are countless designs and ways to wear platinum jewelry-from diamond rings to earrings to brooches.
In 2012, many platinum jewelry inspirations are a reflection of trends pulled from current TV shows and fashion trends depicting vintage wear.  Here are just a few 2012 popular platinum jewelry trends to wear:

1.  Traditional Vintage Platinum Ring:
Vintage platinum wedding bands are becoming the ring to sport.  Engagement and wedding bands frequently worn in the 60s and 70s are making their comeback.  They’ve gained exposure from TV shows such as Mad Men, celebrities such as Grace Kelly.  Modern day brides are looking for the perfect vintage ring.  Modern day celebrities such as Beyonce, Halle Berry and Natalie Portman have already caught onto the trend!

2. Colorful Platinum Rings and Earrings:
Platinum is the perfect rare metal to pair with any precious stone.  The trend this year is to have bright colors.  Instead of going for a clear diamond, consider going with a colored diamond or gem stones with deep, saturated colors.  2012’s trending colors include canary yellow, emerald green and topaz blue.

3. Classy Tennis Bracelets:
Tennis bracelets were popular back in the 80s.  Many if not most of our younger generation have a clue what tennis bracelets are.  Tennis bracelets are basically diamond bracelets that are thin and elegant.  The diamonds and bracelet are displayed symmetrically.  They were named after a tennis star who frequently wore these bracelets, by name of Chris Evert.  Nowadays, they have resurfaced and worn not on the tennis courts, but all over.  Famous star such as Penelope Cruz and Rachel McAdams have been sporting these ultra chic platinum tennis bracelets!
Platinum is trending for all types of jewelry, so you can’t really go wrong no matter what type of platinum jewelry you decide to invest in.  Unlike white gold, platinum maintains its beautiful silver brilliance without the need of yearly re-plating and recoating.  It does however, come with a slightly higher pricetag–but well worth your money.
