Mother’s Day Ideas – Gifts and Ways to Celebrate

Mother’s Day is one of the most special days in a mother’s life. However it could also become the worst holiday if you fail to make your mom or wife happy during this special occasion. Unfortunately, for most people especially guys, buying the best gift or getting the most perfect treat for a mother could prove to be the hardest thing in the world.

Since nobody wants to spend  money on a gift that the other person will not love, this article will serve as a guide to what to give and what NOT to give to a mother on Mother’s day—or for that matter, or any other occasion.

Mothers’ Day Gift Ideas

The number one trend in finding a gift for a mom is to buy something that  she can use to pamper herself, of make her life more convenient herself. However, one rule you need to keep in mind is that you should make an effort to get her something really nice, whether its perfume or a kitchen gadget. If you want to buy her a perfume, for example, you don’t necessarily have to buy a designer brand (though it would certainly be appreciated if you can afford it). But do make sure to find a scent that she will find appealing.

Most mothers love anything that is eco-friendly, as well as most things that are garden-related. Buy her a bouquet of flowers (and don’t pick her prized roses!) You can also go for something kooky like silk flowers with floral scent: buy a vial of flower scent which she can apply to her flowers so she can enjoy the fragrance any time she wants. Better yet, get her some potted flowers that last longer, or potted fresh herbs for her cooking.

DON’T buy complicated techie gadgets which she won’t enjoy and probably wouldn’t use. Also don’t buy her something you want for yourself, in the hopes that she will just pass it on to you eventually. That defeats the purpose of doing something for your mother.

Lastly, DON’T buy her stuff that she really DOESN’T want – like cosmetic surgery certificates, exercise equipment, cellulite creams, or menopause supplements. If she really wants these things then she’ll buy them herself and besides, if it comes from other people, it only seems somewhat offensive.

If you want to see a smile on the face of your mom (or wife) on Mother’s Day then why not give her something you made or prepared yourself – like breakfast-in-bed, surprise party, or cook for her ready-made meals for the family to last for a week. The idea is to come up with gift that sends the message that you care and appreciate her role in your life.
